If I could give 10 stars I would. In the past year I have purchased two cars with Downeast and been to their service dept. Buying a car from Vern is like having a cup coffee with a good friend, except you end up with a new car! John Cuskelly loves getting you into the car you really want, goes over all the details and is as enthusiastic about the style of their cars as he is about the safety features. I have had nothing but prompt reliable service from their service department. Briana in the finance department was so friendly and got everything together so quickly and accurately. She made everything so easy. From service to sales to finance, I have had the best experience with Downeast Toyota.

Steve Maker was the salesman for the purchase of our vehicle. Steve was personable and accommodating. He exuded a “home town” approach in his interactions with us. Sam Lapierre did a magnificent job helping us find a vehicle that made sense financially, and got my partner the winter features that they were looking for and most importantly, we saved a bit of money on our payment + insurance. They were incredibly honest about costs and fees both upfront and what we could expect at the end of the agreement so we knew exactly what we would be paying and when, and even threw in some dog accessories for our time. I couldn't recommend working with Sam enough. We were leasing a Venza hybrid, now happily leasing a Rav4 hybrid.

Vern & John made it happen, the car I've been dreaming of and actually tried to purchase at other dealerships. I'd previously been quoted outrageous interest rates, ridiculous mandatory add-ons, and even offered a less expensive car. When we pulled into Downeast Toyota because they had the exact car (Land Cruiser), in the perfect color (black), I really didn't think it would be doable because of my prior experiences. I thought I needed to lower my expectations, champagne taste on a beer budget. But, Vern & John made it happen. A decent interest rate, a very fair offer on my trade in, and while the payment is a hair higher than I was hoping, it is manageable. Vern, John, and Brianna in finance - you are all awesome! Thank you!

I had a fantastic experience at Downeast Toyota in Brewer with the purchase of my 2026BZ. My sales person, Ilya A was highly knowledgeable about many of the details of this EV, and was able to answer all my questions quickly with confidence and authority. He and his manager were very reasonable in negotiating a trade-in value on my current vehicle. I was very happy with the final price of this new EV. The process of picking up my car, signing all the appropriate paperwork, dealing with my insurance company, and getting on the road was quick, painless, and without any roadblocks. This is the seventh vehicle that I’ve purchased through this dealership over several decades. My experience there has always been outstanding, and this was yet another example of the excellent customer service, pleasant environment, and competence and professionalism of every one I interacted with at the dealership. I own a 2016 Toyota Tundra and I trusted this establishment to help me fix my truck. It has been having undercarriage issues for the past 2 years. Many mechanics later with so many misdiagnosed issues. The Auto tech (who was very patient with me) went through the entire truck and found what he needed to fix it and what I was previously told, they were wrong. I'm very glad I brought it here. I would've wasted my money elsewhere. Jared at the front desk and his team were very thorough and communicative and didn't take any action until I gave consent on fixing the truck. Specifically, Jared (who I mainly dealt with) was really great to deal with, his personality made the whole experience fun. He made the process easy, was professional and truthful, told me honestly what it is I needed to fix the vehicle. I don't like sugarcoating or being lied to, so I dug deep into everything on this list. He had no problem breaking it down and giving me the real real on what was needed. He even allowed me to check out my truck during the process to get eyes on the task. He respected my time crunch and made everything happen without a hesitation, was quick with getting back to me and informative. Because I was not expecting to leave my vehicle there, he lined up a free rental. Pretty dope! The lady who cashed me out was also pretty cool. Thanks to the team I'm now broke but at least my ride is smooth as glass. Lol. And at the same time, I should've done this 2 years ago!

There is nothing I despise more, other than getting an audit from the IRS, then buying a car from a car lot. However, I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised and I had a very enjoyable Purchasing experience with Downeast Toyota this last week. I was able to negotiate my purchase and get exactly what I wanted all through text. I was able to do the quick application online and got a call back within minutes with an offer. I was able Make a down payment online and then go in and sign a couple of quick papers that took no more than 15 minutes. The online portion just took maybe two hours altogether. I was able to Pick up my car and leave. They had my car ready for me, including the equipment that I had purchased extra. They had it already installed. It was the easiest and most pleasant car buying experience I have ever had. We have to buy one more vehicle before we retire and this is exactly where we will buy it. No questions asked. We won’t even browse anywhere else.This is it. Thank you to Rachel and Crystal and Alex And Don for making our experience so wonderful. I really mean that. I have bought many many cars over the years and never have I been able to say that. It was also the most honest buying experience we have ever had. Thank you all ❤️

I had a complaint about the service department, so I contacted Downeast Toyota via their website. They promised to call me to discuss the issues but never did. They did unauthorized work, messed up instructions and did other minor, irritating things that show that they weren't serious about customer service.

Their service department is very unethical. A Toyota dealer multiple times can’t open tire valves. Not sure if they have a mechanic. All they want to do is sale, sale, sale products to you to make easy profit. Will not care about your car at all. And when things happened, they pass off the blames real quick. Nothing works or available at this service place besides the credit card reader. A professional service can’t not take accountability is this place.

The Service Dept. had several opportunities to provide any instructions for my initial maintenance appointment. From scheduling to checking in at the service desk to arriving at the staging area where they acknowledged my appointment and then took my keys they then pointed to where I should wait but no one gave instructions other than to wait. It was one hour later that I was called & notified that my service was still waiting because I had not checked in with a specific Service Advisor - who happened to be one of 8 Service Advisors at empty desks. At no point in all my check ins did anyone tell me to check in with a specific Service Advisor. So they implied that this unreasonable delay was my fault. I waited for over two hours. Only to then find that they for an unknown reason did not complete the car wash service meant to be included in my new car's maintenance appointment. I didn't want to wait any longer than I already had but, before getting just a few blocks away I noticed fresh grease or oil on the headliner and sun visor above the driver's seat, which I then returned to the dealership for them to correct. They did not wash the car as was expected but I don't know why because I could clearly see cars going through their car wash. I just wanted them to do what they were supposed to do and communicating with me would have been helpful. I do not think the Service Dept. takes pride in their brand, their product or holds their customers in high regard. The Sales Dept is wonderful, but the Service Dept. is sure to turn people away.

I've been going here for the past couple of years for all of my needs for the '18 4runner - oil changes and state inspections. This year, year 3, they are unwilling to complete the state safety inspection due to a window tint that I've had since the vehicle came from the factory, despite seeing in their records that they've certified the vehicle the past years. They seem to change their servicing practices at-whim, and as a result, I've cancelled future appointments and will not return. To me, it's worth going to a different dealer.

Notice majority of the reviews are from people who just purchased a vehicle here? Funny huh? Not a coincidence. My bet is they’re bribing customers to leave 5 star reviews. Here’s an honest review for you. This place and its employees are the poster child of incompetent. They completely denied my 2025 Sienna lift gate was severely misaligned, so bad the latch mechanism and striker were grinding together causing wear marks on both items, even preventing the gate from opening at times without a nudge. The service writer and tech were both rude, condescending, accusatory etc. (said it must’ve been in an accident, classic, spare me). They both said the massively misaligned panel gaps and grinding was all “normal” (can’t even make this up). We took it to Central Maine Toyota and the service writer instantly recognized the ungodly panel gaps and grinding and acknowledged it wasn’t normal at all (who would’ve thought). Central Maine Toyota realigned our lift gate so now it actually does operate normally and we couldn’t be happier. Over the past 10 years, we have had many issues with Downeast Toyota including performing unauthorized work, poorly splicing wires together resulting in the wires shorting out and almost catching fire, TRYING to lowball us on trade ins, TRYING to price gouge us on new vehicles, denying warranty claims multiple times, employees being rude, condescending, accusatory, etc. etc. They don’t like me because I don’t put up with their BS and call them out. Do yourself a favor, avoid Downeast Toyota at all costs, and drive 60 minutes south to Waterville if you want to do business with a dealership who actually cares about your very expensive purchase. That’s all.
