Celebrating 50 Years: Downeast Toyota
HISTORY OF DOWNEAST
1966: The Downeast Business forms at its first location in Bangor.
1971: Edward O. Darling goes into business for himself with a Toyota franchise.
1972 -1973: Construction on the original building at 640 Wilson Street was started in
1972 and finished in 1973.
1986: Ed buys Twin City Buick to grow his business, to promote from within, and to attract and keep good people, as well as get involved with a high-quality General Motors franchise and GMAC financing.
1986: The Body Shop was constructed at 21 Pierce Road.
1988: The dealership moved into the new building at 652 Wilson Street.
1994: The Annex was created to attract an alternative market segment, the auction building was purchased. Soon after, 7,000 square feet and a car wash were added to the auction building.
2002: 7,000 square feet were added to the service department.
2003: 15,000 square feet were added to the body shop.
2004: 10,000 square feet were added to the showroom, Scion added.
2005: Pierce Road corner lot acquired.
2006: Buick Franchise sold.
2007: 10,800 square feet added to service, Downeast Wellness Center opens.
2016: Downeast Family of Companies Celebrate their 50th year in business.
