Performance and Fuel Economy
The 2016 Toyota Prius offers new levels of performance and fuel economy that will take the competition years to catch. Providing the power to move the car is a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine working with a pair of electric motors/generators. Sending the power to the wheels from the hybrid system is a very refined continuously variable transmission. The result of these changes and upgrades is a vehicle that has the potential to reach nearly 60 miles per gallon in the city (58 mpg; on Prius Two Eco).
Additionally, the 2016 Prius is the first Toyota model to be built with Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). As new versions of the Toyota fleet are produced, they will basically fall into one of a number of categories. The idea being that models in the same category will have high commonality of parts; thus lowering the prices for repair and maintenance. From a safety stand point, the 2016 Prius will also feature the innovative Toyota Safety Sense P suite.
