Key Differences Between the 2020 Toyota Highlander and 2019 Toyota Highlander

If you and your family are in search of a three-row family hauler, you will find what you are looking for in this 2020 Toyota Highlander vs 2019 Toyota Highlander comparison. Armed with a Toyota New Global Architecture platform that is 2.36 inches longer, the next-gen Highlander increases the available cargo space behind the third row – making the Toyota Highlander perfect for day-to-day errands. To upgrade safety, the 2020 Toyota Highlander adds a suite of Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 safety systems that will include a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, Lane Tracing Assist and Road Sign Assist. Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 will replace the first-generation system.

With room for seven or eight passengers, the 2020 Toyota Highlander and its predecessor are tailor-made for family adventures. To ensure that passengers stay connected and entertained on family road trips, the next-generation Toyota Highlander will replace the stock 6.1-inch Toyota Entune™ touchscreen infotainment system with an 8-inch Toyota Entune™ 3.0 touchscreen infotainment system that adds access to Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa. Top-of-the-line Highlander Platinum entries feature a best-in-class 12.3-inch Toyota Entune™ 3.0 touchscreen display that pairs with a 1,200-watt JBL® Premium Audio System and integrated navigation. Additional upgrades to the Highlander spec sheet include 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a 7-inch Multi-Information Display, a panoramic moonroof, heated first- and second-row seats, a Toyota SofTex® interior and a Head-Up Display.

When you opt for the 2020 Toyota Highlander, the 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine – an available option for the 2019 Toyota Highlander – will replace the 185-horsepower 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine as the standard powertrain. Married to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the next-generation Toyota Highlander will achieve 22 mpg combined in front-wheel drive configurations. An available Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD System with Drive Mode Select and Driveline Disconnect features will upgrade capabilities. An updated Toyota Highlander Hybrid will employ a modified 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that pairs with a pair of high-torque electric motors to make 240 horsepower and 34 mpg combined – a 17-percent increase in fuel economy over the previous hybrid variant.
