Married to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the next-generation Toyota Highlander will achieve 22 mpg combined in front-wheel drive configurations. An available Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD System with Drive Mode Select and Driveline Disconnect features will upgrade capabilities. An updated Toyota Highlander Hybrid will employ a modified 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that pairs with a pair of high-torque electric motors to make 240 horsepower and 34 mpg combined – a 17-percent increase in fuel economy over the previous hybrid variant.
