Downeast Toyota customers can easily hold onto the peace of mind built into the dealership’s inventory of crossover SUVs. The non-profit Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently released the safety scores for the 2016 Toyota RAV4. For the new model-year, the 2016 RAV4 have been redesigned with new exterior elements as well as upgraded interior accessories to match the vehicle’s recent Top Safety Pick + designation. In order for the 2016 RAV4 to get this respected label, the crash test scores must be at the highest level and the vehicle has to have safety systems to help prevent accidents.

“At Toyota, we continue to focus on the safety and peace of mind of our customers,” Dino Triantafyllos, Toyota’s North American Chief Quality Officer said in a Toyota Press Release. “We are proud that IIHS has recognized our commitment to helping protect drivers and passengers.”
The 2016 Toyota RAV4 scored perfect markets in all five categories used in testing by the IIHS. Some trims of the new Toyota crossover SUV feature forward collision warning which gives the new RAV4 extra points with the ratings agency. Other safety features found with the 2016 RAV4 include blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert and tire pressure monitoring sensors.

Also new for the 2016 Toyota RAV4 is the addition of the SE trim. Drivers looking for a sportier experience will want to opt for the 2016 RAV4 SE. With a sport-tuned suspension, the RAV4 SE trim features LED projector beam headlights, daytime running lights and tail lights. Under the hood of each 2016 Toyota RAV4 is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine making more than 175 horsepower and can still achieve Environmental Protection Agency fuel-economy scores of 24 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. Depending on trim grade, the 2016 RAV4 can have either front- or all-wheel drive.
